Moira Douglas, Director of St. Andrews Day School
Hello, my name is Moira Douglas and I am the Director here at St. Andrews. I have worked in the realm of Child Development for 32 years. Twenty have been here at St. Andrew’s. In those years we changed from being only a preschool to being a large preschool plus daycare for infants through age 5 and open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m for the preschool and 7 a.m. to 5:30 for the infants and toddlers. Prior to Directing I taught at Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church Preschool for 12 years. Although I am the administrator, I am at heart a teacher and enjoy working with my staff to ensure that lesson plans cover many concepts. Children work and play and learn without realizing they are being taught. I encourage teachers to be creative with children as they all learn in different ways. We need to be “hands on” and let them experience sensory activities but use many different auditory, visual techniques as well. Much can be learned by watching and listening to the children as to how they learn. I believe we never stop learning and so I encourage my staff to continue in their education and I myself still enjoy workshops and conferences. I also believe we need to keep up with current techniques and meet the needs of the community and be open to new ideas and strategies. Sometimes that means changing what we can offer but we must be open to change. My newest project is an outdoor classroom where each class has their time to go and plant, water, use scales, magnets, pulleys and play in sand and water. It is a work in progress. I personally know each and every child that goes through school and have formed lasting friendships with families.
Father Timothy Eichler, Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church
I want to thank you for the trust that you have placed in us as we help you with your children as we are off and running over the past 2 months in a new school year. A school year that is filled with excitement and new adventures for your children, you as a family, and all of us here at St. Andrew's. Please consider St. Andrew's as member or your family for our care for your children is our primary focus. I am Fr Tim Eichler and I too am new to St. Andrew's and am excited about the opportunity to serve you and your family. I look forward to meeting you over the days, weeks, and months ahead. If I can be of assistance please contact me. You are always welcome at Sunday worship, prayer services, and of course the third Sunday of the month breakfast between services where we gather together informally as a St. Andrew's family. See you around the school.
Yours in Christ,
